Health Checkup / Annual Health Examination

健康診断 (kenkō shindan)

An annual health checkup (健康診断, kenkō shindan) is a periodic medical examination designed to detect diseases early and monitor general health trends. In Japan, employers are legally required to provide checkups to full-time employees, and municipalities offer them to NHI members. A standard checkup includes body measurements, blood pressure, vision, hearing, and blood and urine tests for metabolic and organ function markers.

Employers in Japan must conduct at least one health checkup per year for all full-time employees; foreign workers are legally entitled to the same examinations as Japanese employees.
