Chest X-Ray
胸部X線 (kyōbu ekkusu-sen)
A chest X-ray uses low-dose radiation to create images of the heart, lungs, ribs, and diaphragm. It is used to diagnose pneumonia, tuberculosis, heart enlargement, pleural effusion, and lung tumors. In Japan, a chest X-ray is a standard component of annual health checkups and is required for certain long-term visa applications as tuberculosis screening.
During a chest X-ray in Japan, patients stand in front of the X-ray machine and hold their breath briefly; the procedure takes under 1 minute with minimal radiation exposure.
