Urinalysis

尿検査 (nyō kensa)

Urinalysis is the examination of a urine sample to detect abnormalities including protein, glucose, blood, bacteria, and white cells. It screens for urinary tract infections, kidney disease, diabetes, and certain metabolic conditions. In Japan, urinalysis is a routine component of annual health checkups and is used to detect kidney dysfunction early before symptoms appear.

At Japanese clinics, patients receive a small cup and are directed to a restroom to collect a midstream urine sample (中間尿, chūkannyo).
