Blood Pressure Measurement
血圧測定 (ketsuatsu sokutei)
Blood pressure measurement records the force of blood against arterial walls, expressed as systolic pressure (心収縮期, maximum) over diastolic pressure (拡張期, minimum), measured in mmHg. Normal blood pressure is below 120/80 mmHg. Hypertension (高血圧, kōketsuatsu) is defined as 140/90 mmHg or above. It is a standard procedure performed at virtually every Japanese clinic visit.
Automated blood pressure machines (自動血圧計, jidō ketsuatsu-kei) are common in Japanese clinic waiting rooms; some pharmacies also have them available for free public use.
