労災保険 (rōsai hoken)

Workers' Compensation Insurance (労災保険, rōsai hoken) covers injuries, illnesses, and deaths that occur directly as a result of work duties or the commute to and from work. It covers 100% of medical treatment costs with no copayment, as well as lost wages, rehabilitation, and survivor benefits. All Japanese employers are required by law to enroll their workers in this scheme regardless of employment type or nationality.

Foreign workers injured on the job in Japan are fully covered by workers' compensation and should report the incident to their employer and file a claim through the Labor Standards Inspection Office (労働基準監督署).
