Inpatient / Hospitalization

入院 (nyūin)

Inpatient care means being formally admitted to a hospital and staying overnight or for multiple days to receive medical treatment. This includes surgery, post-operative recovery, intensive monitoring, and management of serious conditions. During a hospital stay in Japan you may be placed in a shared ward or a private room; private rooms carry an additional daily fee not covered by health insurance.

Japanese hospitals typically ask inpatients to bring personal items such as pajamas, slippers, and toiletries; some facilities offer rental or sale of these items on site.
