Uterus
子宮 (shikyū)
The uterus is a hollow, pear-shaped organ in the female pelvis where a fetus develops during pregnancy. Conditions affecting the uterus include fibroids, endometriosis, and uterine cancer. In Japan, cervical cancer screening (子宮頸がん検診, shikyūkei-gan kenshin) is offered free every two years to women aged 20 and over through municipal health programs.
Uterine conditions are managed by obstetrics and gynecology (産婦人科, sanfujin-ka) departments and clinics.
