Pregnancy
妊娠 (ninshin)
Pregnancy is the period during which a developing fetus grows inside the uterus, typically lasting about 40 weeks from the last menstrual period. In Japan, upon confirming pregnancy with a doctor, register at your local municipal office to receive the Maternal and Child Health Handbook (boshi techo) and prenatal checkup vouchers. Foreign residents enrolled in national health insurance are covered for most obstetric care, including routine prenatal visits and delivery.
Pregnant foreign residents should register their pregnancy at their local municipal office as early as possible to access subsidized prenatal checkups and official maternity support services.
