Ovary

卵巣 (ransō)

The ovaries are a pair of small glands in the female pelvis that produce eggs (ova) and the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Conditions include ovarian cysts, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and ovarian cancer. Ovarian cysts are commonly detected during routine ultrasound examinations performed in Japan's annual health checkups or gynecological consultations.

Ovarian conditions are evaluated in the obstetrics and gynecology department (産婦人科, sanfujin-ka).
