浮腫 (fushu)

Swelling (edema) is the accumulation of fluid in body tissues, causing puffiness or enlargement. It commonly affects the legs, ankles, and feet. Causes include heart failure, kidney disease, liver cirrhosis, venous insufficiency, and allergic reactions. Sudden facial or throat swelling after eating or medication is a sign of anaphylaxis and requires immediate emergency treatment.

Leg swelling (浮腫, fushu or むくみ, mukumi) is a common complaint in Japan's aging population; it is evaluated in internal medicine or cardiology.
