Lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped structures distributed throughout the body that filter lymph fluid and house immune cells to fight infection. Swollen lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy) often indicate infection or, less commonly, lymphoma or other cancers. Persistent unexplained swelling should be evaluated by a physician in Japan's internal medicine or oncology departments.
