循環器科 (junkanki-ka)

Cardiology (循環器科, junkanki-ka) is the specialty concerned with diseases of the heart and blood vessels. It manages conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, and valvular disease. Cardiologists use ECGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and cardiac catheterization for diagnosis. Japan has excellent cardiac care with low rates of coronary artery disease compared to Western countries.

Blood pressure screening (血圧測定, ketsuatsu sokutei) is part of Japan's annual health checkup, and hypertension management is a core function of cardiology and internal medicine.
