Kidney
腎臓 (jinzō)
The kidneys are a pair of bean-shaped organs located in the lower back that filter blood, remove waste and excess fluid as urine, regulate blood pressure, and maintain electrolyte balance. Kidney disease often progresses silently; Japan's annual checkups include urinalysis to detect early signs of kidney dysfunction.
Kidney disorders are managed by the nephrology department (腎臓内科, jinzō naika).
