Spine
脊椎 (sekitsui)
The spine, or vertebral column, is a series of 33 vertebrae stacked vertically that encase and protect the spinal cord. It provides structural support for the body and enables movement. Back pain related to the spine is extremely common in Japan, and orthopedic clinics (整形外科, seikei geka) are frequently visited for this complaint.
Spinal conditions are typically evaluated by the orthopedics department, with imaging such as MRI used for diagnosis.
