Orthopedics (整形外科, seikei geka) is the specialty concerned with bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves of the musculoskeletal system. It treats fractures, sprains, arthritis, herniated discs, and sports injuries. In Japan, orthopedic clinics are among the most commonly visited specialty clinics, particularly for lower back pain (腰痛, yōtsū) and knee osteoarthritis.
Orthopedic clinics in Japan often provide rehabilitation services (リハビリ, rihabiri) including physical therapy on-site.
