Skin Test
皮膚テスト (hifu tesuto)
A skin test involves applying a small amount of a suspected allergen or substance to the skin by pricking, scratching, or injecting it just beneath the surface. After 15 to 20 minutes for prick tests or 48 to 72 hours for patch tests, the site is examined for redness, swelling, or a raised wheal indicating a reaction. Skin tests identify specific allergies and are also used to detect past tuberculosis exposure.
The tuberculin skin test (ツベルクリン反応, tsuberukulin hannō) has historically been used in Japan to screen schoolchildren and workers for tuberculosis exposure.
