ECG (Electrocardiogram)

心電図 (shindenzu)

An ECG (electrocardiogram, 心電図, shindenzu) records the electrical activity of the heart using electrodes placed on the chest, arms, and legs. It detects arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, conduction abnormalities, and chamber enlargement. The resting 12-lead ECG is a painless, 5-minute test included in many Japanese annual health checkups.

ECG is a standard part of Japan's annual health checkup program (健康診断, kenkō shindan) for adults and is performed at most internal medicine and cardiology clinics.
