What it means
A grace period is a set amount of time after your health insurance premium payment due date during which your coverage remains active even if you have not yet paid. For ACA Marketplace plans receiving a premium tax credit, the grace period is 90 days; for plans without subsidies, it is typically 30 days. During the grace period your coverage is technically at risk — providers may not be paid, and the insurer may hold claims until payment is made. If you do not pay by the end of the grace period, your coverage can be canceled retroactively, and you may owe the provider for any claims incurred during that period.
