Unexplained Weight Loss
体重減少 (taijū genshō)
Unexplained weight loss is losing more than 5% of body weight over 6–12 months without intentional dieting or increased exercise. It can signal serious underlying conditions including cancer, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, depression, gastrointestinal disease, or chronic infections such as tuberculosis. Thorough evaluation including blood tests and imaging is warranted.
Japan's annual health checkup (健康診断, kenkō shindan) includes weight measurement and can detect unexpected changes over time.
