Pediatrics
小児科 (shōnika)
Pediatrics (小児科, shōnika) is the branch of medicine dealing with the health and medical care of infants, children, and adolescents up to age 15–18. It covers routine checkups, vaccinations, development assessment, and treatment of childhood illnesses. Japan's child health program offers free municipal health checkups at key developmental milestones.
Children enrolled in Japan's national health insurance receive subsidized or free medical care; many local governments offer near-zero copayments for children's medical visits.
