Headache

頭痛 (zutsū)

A headache is pain or discomfort in the head or upper neck. Tension headaches and migraines are the most common types. Warning signs for serious conditions include a sudden extremely severe headache (thunderclap headache), headache with fever and stiff neck (meningitis), or headache following head injury. These require immediate emergency evaluation.

Migraine clinics (頭痛外来, zutsū gairai) exist at many Japanese hospitals; prescription triptan medications are available for migraines.
