眼 (me)
The eyes are the organs of sight, converting light into nerve signals sent to the brain. Common eye conditions include myopia (nearsightedness), conjunctivitis (pink eye), glaucoma, and cataracts. Japan has high rates of myopia, particularly in younger populations, and excellent ophthalmological services are widely available.
Eye care is provided by ophthalmologists (眼科, ganka), which are standalone clinics and hospital departments throughout Japan.
