呼吸器科 (kokyūki-ka)

Pulmonology (呼吸器科, kokyūki-ka) is the specialty dealing with diseases of the lungs and respiratory tract, including asthma, COPD, pneumonia, lung cancer, and tuberculosis. Pulmonologists use spirometry (breathing tests), chest imaging, and bronchoscopy for diagnosis. Japan mandates tuberculosis screening for certain foreign residents and long-term visa applicants.

Foreign residents applying for long-term visas in Japan may be required to undergo a chest X-ray for tuberculosis screening through health centers.
