Cardiac Arrest

心停止 (shinteishi)

Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating, cutting off blood flow to the brain and vital organs. Call 119 immediately and begin CPR without delay. Japan has an extensive network of publicly accessible AEDs located in train stations, shopping centers, and public buildings. Japanese emergency dispatchers can guide callers through CPR steps by telephone. Brain damage can occur within minutes, making immediate bystander response absolutely critical.

Japan has over 600,000 registered AED locations, and bystander CPR survival rates have improved significantly due to widespread public training campaigns run by fire departments.
