Bladder
膀胱 (bōkō)
The bladder is a hollow muscular organ in the pelvis that stores urine produced by the kidneys until it is expelled through urination. Common conditions include cystitis (urinary tract infection, UTI), urinary incontinence, and bladder cancer. UTIs are very common, especially in women, and are treated quickly at urology or internal medicine clinics in Japan.
Bladder conditions are assessed in the urology department (泌尿器科, hinyōki-ka) or internal medicine.
