What it means
Uterine cancer, most commonly endometrial cancer, is a malignant tumor that begins in the lining of the uterus (the endometrium). It is the most common gynecologic cancer in the United States. The most common symptom is abnormal uterine bleeding, especially after menopause. Risk factors include obesity, diabetes, hormone imbalances, and family history. Because it often causes early warning symptoms, many cases are caught at an early and treatable stage. Treatment typically involves hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus), sometimes combined with radiation or chemotherapy.
