嘔吐 (ōto)

Vomiting is the forceful expulsion of stomach contents through the mouth. Common causes include gastroenteritis, food poisoning, excessive alcohol, pregnancy (morning sickness), and chemotherapy. Repeated vomiting causing dehydration, vomiting blood (hematemesis), or vomiting alongside severe headache or abdominal pain requires urgent medical evaluation.

Intravenous drip (点滴, tenteki) for rehydration after prolonged vomiting is commonly administered in Japanese clinics and emergency rooms.
