Sore Throat

喉の痛み (nodo no itami)

A sore throat is pain, scratchiness, or irritation of the throat, often worsened by swallowing. Most sore throats are caused by viral infections such as the common cold or influenza. Bacterial causes, particularly Group A Streptococcus (strep throat), require antibiotic treatment. Rapid strep tests are available at many clinics in Japan for quick diagnosis.

Throat swabs for rapid antigen testing are commonly performed at ENT and internal medicine clinics in Japan during cold and flu season.
