鎮痛剤 (Chintsu-zai)

A medication that reduces pain perception. Common OTC painkillers in Japan include acetaminophen (Calonal, Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Bufferin EX, Ibuprofen A). Stronger opioid-based painkillers are tightly controlled and only dispensed in hospitals under strict prescription. NSAIDs are widely used for headaches, menstrual pain, dental pain, and musculoskeletal discomfort. Always check labeling for maximum daily dose.

Loxoprofen (Loxonin) is a popular NSAID in Japan, available OTC in lower doses since 2011, and frequently prescribed by physicians for moderate pain.
