Nose
鼻 (hana)
The nose is the primary airway for breathing, filtering and warming inhaled air, and housing olfactory receptors for smell. Common nasal conditions include allergic rhinitis (hay fever, 花粉症, kafunshō), sinusitis, and nasal polyps. Japan experiences intense pollen seasons from cedar and cypress trees in spring, making allergic rhinitis very prevalent among residents.
Nasal and sinus conditions are treated at otolaryngology (ENT) clinics, which are widely available in Japan.
