Glucose Tolerance Test
ブドウ糖負荷試験 (budōtō fuka shiken)
The glucose tolerance test (GTT) measures how efficiently your body processes sugar. You fast overnight, drink a standardized glucose solution, then have blood drawn at one- or two-hour intervals. Elevated blood glucose levels at these intervals indicate prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, or gestational diabetes. Results guide decisions on dietary changes, medication, and monitoring frequency for patients at risk of developing diabetes.
In Japan, the glucose tolerance test is routinely recommended for pregnant women between weeks 24 and 28 to screen for gestational diabetes (妊娠糖尿病, ninshin tōnyōbyō).
