Disability Benefit
障害給付 (Shōgai kyūfu)
Financial support paid to insured individuals who develop a qualifying physical or mental disability while enrolled in national pension or employee insurance. The benefit level depends on the severity of disability (Grade 1 or Grade 2) and is assessed by a government panel. Foreign residents enrolled in Japan's pension system for the required period are eligible to apply.
Applicants must have their disability certified by a Japanese physician and submit documentation to the Japan Pension Service within a prescribed window after diagnosis.
