Bleeding

出血 (shukketsu)

Bleeding refers to the escape of blood from damaged blood vessels. External bleeding (visible wounds) or internal bleeding (blood in stool, urine, vomit, or coughed up) requires medical evaluation. Rectal bleeding is common and can range from hemorrhoids to colorectal cancer. Uncontrollable external bleeding is a medical emergency; apply firm pressure while awaiting emergency services.

Blood in stool (血便, ketsuben) or urine (血尿, ketsunyō) should be reported to a physician promptly; Japan's colorectal cancer screening program checks for occult blood annually.
