Anxiety
不安 (fuan)
Anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about anticipated events or uncertain outcomes. When persistent and impairing daily function, it constitutes an anxiety disorder. Physical symptoms include rapid heartbeat, sweating, trembling, and shortness of breath. Japan's mental health services have expanded; seeking help is increasingly normalized though stigma remains in some settings.
Psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine (心療内科, shinryō naika) clinics are available throughout Japan and manage anxiety disorders.
