What it means
A urinalysis (UA) is a physical, chemical, and microscopic examination of your urine. It checks color, clarity, pH, protein, glucose, ketones, bilirubin, red blood cells, white blood cells, and bacteria. You provide a clean-catch midstream urine sample by urinating a little into the toilet, then catching the middle stream in a sterile cup provided by the clinic. A urinalysis can reveal urinary tract infections, kidney disease, diabetes, liver problems, and dehydration. Results are often available within hours. Doctors order urinalysis during routine physical exams, pregnancy checks, pre-surgical evaluations, and whenever you report symptoms like painful or frequent urination.
