What it means
A qualifying life event (QLE) is a change in your personal circumstances that makes you eligible to enroll in or change a health insurance plan outside of the annual Open Enrollment Period, triggering a Special Enrollment Period. Common qualifying life events include getting married or divorced, having or adopting a baby, losing job-based coverage, moving to a new coverage area, and becoming a U.S. citizen or lawfully present immigrant. You typically have 60 days from the event to select a new plan. Documentation is usually required to verify the event with the marketplace.
