What it means

The nurse call button is a device located near your hospital bed—usually attached to the bed rail or a cord—that allows you to alert nursing staff when you need assistance. Pressing it activates a light outside your room and an alert at the nurses' station. Use it any time you need help: to use the bathroom, if you feel pain or discomfort, if your IV alarm is beeping, or if you are concerned about a sudden change in your condition. Do not try to get out of bed without calling first if you feel weak or dizzy, as falls are a serious hospital risk. Staff will respond as quickly as possible based on urgency.
