What it means
Hormone therapy involves medications that add, block, or alter hormone levels in the body. It is used in several contexts: menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) replaces estrogen and progesterone to relieve menopause symptoms; androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) reduces testosterone to treat prostate cancer; and thyroid hormone replacement treats hypothyroidism. Hormone therapy may come as pills, patches, gels, injections, or implants.
