Retirement Benefit

老齢給付 (Rōrei kyūfu)

A pension payment provided to insured individuals who have reached retirement age and met the required contribution period. In Japan, this typically begins at age 65 under the national pension system. Foreign residents who have paid into the system for at least ten years may be eligible, and lump-sum withdrawal is available to those leaving Japan who do not meet the minimum period.

Foreign residents leaving Japan permanently may claim a lump-sum withdrawal (dattai ichijikin) instead of waiting for pension age, but this forfeits future entitlement.
