Intravenous Injection
静脈注射 (jōmyaku chūsha)
An intravenous injection delivers medication or fluids directly into a vein as a single, rapid bolus dose rather than a slow continuous drip. The drug enters the bloodstream immediately, making it the fastest route of administration. It is used when a rapid effect is needed, such as for emergency pain relief, anti-nausea drugs, contrast agents for imaging, or certain diagnostic substances requiring immediate bioavailability.
In Japan, intravenous injections are administered by nurses under a doctor's order and are distinguished from the slower tenteki drip in clinical terminology.
