Antifungal

抗真菌薬 (Kō-shinkinyaku)

A medicine used to treat infections caused by fungi, such as athlete's foot (mizumushi), ringworm, oral thrush, or vaginal candidiasis. Topical antifungals like clotrimazole and terbinafine are available over the counter in Japan for skin conditions. Systemic oral antifungals such as fluconazole require a prescription. Athlete's foot products are especially popular in Japan and widely stocked at drugstores.

Mizumushi (athlete's foot) is very common in Japan due to the custom of removing shoes indoors and the prevalence of communal bathing facilities; OTC antifungal creams are a large retail category.
