Anaphylaxis
アナフィラキシー (anafīrakishī)
Anaphylaxis is a severe, potentially fatal allergic reaction occurring within minutes of exposure to an allergen such as food, insect stings, or medication. Symptoms include hives, swelling of the throat, breathing difficulty, and dangerously low blood pressure. Those with known severe allergies should carry an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen) and a Japanese-language allergy card. Call 119 immediately if anaphylaxis is suspected, even after using an auto-injector.
Foreign residents with severe allergies should register with a local clinic and prepare a Japanese-language medical alert card listing all known allergens and emergency contacts.
