What it means
A well-child visit is a routine checkup with your child's pediatrician to monitor growth and development, administer vaccines, and screen for problems before symptoms appear. The AAP recommends visits at 3–5 days after birth, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 2 years, 2.5 years, and then annually through age 21. At each visit the doctor measures height, weight, and head circumference; checks developmental milestones; reviews the immunization schedule; and answers your parenting questions. Well-child visits are fully covered by most insurance plans as preventive care.
