What it means
Gestational age is how far along your pregnancy is, measured in weeks starting from the first day of your last menstrual period — not from conception. A full-term pregnancy is 39 to 40 weeks. Providers use gestational age to track your baby's development, schedule appropriate tests, and assess whether labor is early or on time. An early ultrasound can confirm or adjust the gestational age if it differs from calendar counting. Knowing your gestational age also determines whether your baby would be considered premature, full-term, or post-term if born at that point.
