What it means
Chest pain is any discomfort, pressure, tightness, squeezing, or aching feeling in the chest area. It can range from mild to severe. Causes include heart problems (such as a heart attack or angina), lung issues (like pneumonia or blood clots), acid reflux, muscle strain, or anxiety. Some chest pain spreads to the arm, jaw, or back. Seek emergency care immediately if chest pain is sudden, severe, or comes with shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or arm pain, as these may signal a heart attack. Even mild or unusual chest pain should be evaluated by a provider.
