• F41 is a three-character category heading and is not billable on its own. The Official Guidelines state that "a three-character code is to be used only if it is not further subdivided" and that diagnosis codes are reported "at their highest number of characters available". Of the 5 child codes listed above, 5 are billable.
• Anxiety in acute stress reaction (F43.0), in transient adjustment reaction (F43.2), in neurasthenia (F48.8), in psychophysiologic disorders (F45.-) and in separation anxiety (F93.0) is Excludes2 for the whole category: these are classified elsewhere and may be reported with an F41 code when both are documented.
• F41.0 (panic disorder) lists panic attack and panic state as inclusion terms; panic disorder with agoraphobia (F40.01) is Excludes1 and is not reported together with F41.0.
