産後ケア (sango kea)
Postnatal care refers to medical and practical support provided to a mother and newborn in the weeks following birth. In Japan, hospital stays after delivery are typically four to six days, during which nurses provide hands-on guidance for newborn care and breastfeeding. After discharge, local health centers (hokenjo) offer free home visits by a public health nurse within the first two weeks. Postnatal care centers (sango care centers) are increasingly available for mothers needing additional rest and support.
Japan's local health centers offer free postnatal home visits by public health nurses and are available to all new mothers including foreign residents regardless of nationality.
