About the Center

Background on AMDA-IMIC's multilingual medical information center, its operating history in Japan, and the services it provided to the international community.

AMDA-IMIC (AMDA International Medical Information Center) was a multilingual medical information center based in Japan. It operated from 2013, providing health information, administrative guidance, and consultation support to foreign residents and travelers navigating Japan's healthcare system.

Mission and Scope

The center's core function was information provision rather than clinical care. Staff and volunteers helped foreign residents understand how to access Japan's health system: which type of facility to visit for a given condition, what insurance documentation to bring, how to complete medical forms, and what to expect at various stages of the care process.

The telephone consultation line was operated through AMDA's NGO network (en.amda.or.jp), staffed by multilingual volunteers who answered questions in real time. AMDA-IMIC provided the written resources — guides, form templates, and reference sheets — that supplemented those calls and form the basis of what is archived here.

Language Coverage

AMDA-IMIC's language coverage reflected Japan's foreign resident demographics. The center provided materials and consultation in nine languages:

Administrative Forms

One of the center's most practically useful contributions was the comprehensive forms library maintained on the original platform. The library documented the forms most commonly required of foreign residents in Japan's health system, translated and formatted in each of the nine supported languages. This archive preserves that library in its documented structure, accessible through the forms section.

Operating Period

AMDA-IMIC's platform was actively maintained through 2024. The archived materials on this site reflect the resources as they existed at the end of active operation. The domain amda-imic.com was registered and operated through 2024; this archive is maintained independently to preserve access to the reference materials for research and documentation purposes.

Relationship to AMDA

AMDA (Asian Medical Doctors Association) is a separate humanitarian medical organization based in Okayama. AMDA-IMIC operated as the International Medical Information Center initiative. This archive does not represent AMDA's current programs or activities. For current AMDA activities, consult their official communications independently.
