Niigata 新潟県
Niigata Prefecture extends along the Sea of Japan coast from the Echigo plains north to Sado Island and is known for high-quality rice production, sake brewing, and a significant Russian trade and cultural connection through the port city of Niigata. The foreign resident population includes technical training workers in food processing and manufacturing. Niigata City is the prefectural capital and the main hub for medical services.
Healthcare landscape
Niigata University Hospital and Niigata City General Hospital are the main tertiary-care facilities. Sado Island residents face additional logistical challenges accessing specialist care on the mainland. Niigata International Exchange Foundation (NIEF) provides multilingual consultation services and coordinates medical interpretation support for foreign residents throughout the prefecture.
