Medigap (Medicare Supplement)
メディギャップ(メディケア補完保険) (medikya~appu (medikea hoken hokan))
Medigap (Medicare Supplement Insurance) is private health insurance that helps pay costs not covered by Original Medicare (Parts A and B), such as deductibles, coinsurance, and copays. There are standardized Medigap plan types (labeled A through N) sold by private insurers, with the same basic benefits regardless of insurer. Medigap plans do not cover prescription drugs; Medicare Part D is needed for that. Medigap cannot be used with Medicare Advantage. Enrollment is easiest within 6 months of turning 65 and enrolling in Part B.
Medigap policies protect against high out-of-pocket costs under Original Medicare, which has no out-of-pocket maximum for most services.
